The First Saturday of the New Year!

Some pics from the first Scale and Sail Points Day of 2019. The weather was cold (for San Diego) with intermittent rain. But that didn’t stop our intrepid members. Scalers were on the water by 9am and Ken Campbell led a S/B clinic on land starting at 10am. 11:30 started with the skippers meeting that was led by the Argonauts new Commodore Ben Reeve (it was also going to be Ben’s first time competing in the Soling 50 class). And before the first boats lined up for the first race of the day, Ken Campbell did a short review of the rules that apply to boats and right-of-ways. The last pic is of the S/B just after the start bell for the first race of 2019! It must be noted that the S/B class was on the road to extinction, but with the efforts of member Ken Wilson and others, the class was saved. Noteworthy as well was the best turnout for the Soling 50 class that we have seen in several years, with 12 boats at the start line. Truly, the lack of sunshine and the presence of rain did not dampen our spirits on the first Saturday of 2019.

Scale boats enjoying the early calm water.
Beautiful steam powered boat with a moving arm steering the tiller.
