The First Saturday of the New Year!

Some pics from the first Scale and Sail Points Day of 2019. The weather was cold (for San Diego) with intermittent rain. But that didn’t stop our intrepid members. Scalers were on the water by 9am and Ken Campbell led a S/B clinic on land starting at 10am. 11:30 started with the skippers meeting that was led by the Argonauts new Commodore Ben Reeve (it was also going to be Ben’s first time competing in the Soling 50 class). And before the first boats lined up for the first race of the day, Ken Campbell did a short review of the rules that apply to boats and right-of-ways. The last pic is of the S/B just after the start bell for the first race of 2019! It must be noted that the S/B class was on the road to extinction, but with the efforts of member Ken Wilson and others, the class was saved. Noteworthy as well was the best turnout for the Soling 50 class that we have seen in several years, with 12 boats at the start line. Truly, the lack of sunshine and the presence of rain did not dampen our spirits on the first Saturday of 2019.

S/B Clinic led by Ken Campbell.
Scale boats enjoying the early calm water.
Beautiful steam powered boat with a moving arm steering the tiller.
Rules review following the skipper’s meeting.
Right after the start bell, the first Sail Points race of 2019!

Boxing Day Social Event! and Free Raffle

•  Wed. Dec. 26th, 10am-2pm

Wednesday’s are normally sail days, and December 26th this year is on Wednesday. Boxing Day!

I think it would be a good opportunity to have a social gathering if you happen to be free. Come down to the pond and share some left over goodies and bring a boat. It might be nice for everyone to get a feel of the different sailboats and perhaps a scale boat or perhaps even a power demonstration.

Let’s come together as ONE and just enjoy our company and the pond. Perhaps we could meet say from 10am to 2pm, no special agenda, no stress, and let’s just have fun. Perhaps just a great way to get to know everyone.

I hope you agree this may be a nice worthwhile event to attend. I know there will be some sail guys there – I hope others can come too.

Happy Boxing Day to you All,

Ben Reeve
Commodore / San Diego Argonauts
